Charlie began her love for drama by training with Berzerk Productions as a young enthusiastic actress for 5 years, before heading to Loughborough University completing a BA (Hons) degree in English and Drama. It was at university where Charlie’s love for theatre and working with children blossomed, not only taking part in productions whilst studying theatre in Canada, but also from volunteer programmes and work-shadowing experiences. Here, she taught adults with disabilities drama and looked into the commendable work undertaken by Youth Centres.
From this, Charlie realised that she wanted to use the arts to help and develop others, and is very driven and motivated to do so through her work with Berzerk Productions.
During her training, Charlie has gained Lamda awards, been an extra in Family Affairs, and played roles such as Billy (Dirty Dirty Princess), and Mummy Tiger (Fishing for Tigers). In her final year of study at university, Charlie created and ran her own Theatre in Education workshop at a local secondary school, aimed at enhancing teenage self-esteem, which earned her First Class marks. She is also a registered chaperone and has full public liability insurance.
Charlie hopes to use drama and her passion for theatre to enrich the lives of children, proving them with absorbing, challenging, but ultimately exciting projects to really get their teeth into!
Josh trained with Berzerk as a youngster where his passion for theatre and performance truly developed. He went on to study Drama and Theatre Studies at Royal Holloway University of London where he was able to take modules in not only performance but playwriting, devising and contemporary British theatre. Here he was also fortunate enough to take part in a wide array of stage productions. Some of his favourites include playing Sir Toby Belch in an open air production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Birdboot in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound, Huld in Stephen Berkoff’s The Trial and Duncan in Dennis Kelly’s Love and Money, directed by playwright Dan Rebellato. These productions allowed Josh to work with a number of theatrical styles, from period pieces to contemporary, from the completely abstract to the naturalistic. Josh performed in a new musical at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe and at the 2015 Camden Fringe he performed in a brand new play with Crooked Tree Theatre Company. Josh’s final year group project was a site-specific installation and audio piece, which took place within a house and earned him and his peers first class marks.
Josh is thrilled to be working with Berzerk and has already been involved with Citizenship, our 2016 NT Connections show as assistant director and a cast member. He believes that creative and artistic expression are so important for young people and is constantly impressed by the talents and imaginations of the students at Berzerk. He hopes to guide them in growing towards their full creative potential.
Tom started his theatre training with Berzerk Productions over ten years ago, which captured his heart and imagination and spurred him on to continue with theatre during his teenage years, doing such projects like the National Theatre Connections programme and multiple other shows. He graduated from college with a triple A* grade and went straight into a London based musical theatre company, which works with further training, opportunities to perform, professional etiquette and links within the professional industry. With this company, Tom toured many shows through London and Cornwall, visiting the world famous Minack Theatre in Lands End. Tom had main roles in such shows including Legally Blonde, Elf the Musical, Loserville & Oliver. Tom has ventured into writing, directing and producing short films, exploring yet another avenue of expressing creativity. Tom is now aiming to go to take his training to the next academic level, but is returning to his roots at Berzerk to help other young individuals grow as performers.
